The Punta is the most popular and well-known of all the Garifuna rhythms.Again, the lead hand keeps a steady bass beat throughout, with the other hand doing a rapid double beat as shown.
Punta is a much faster rhythm than the punta, and the accompanying dancing style is also very fast, and is basically like a dance-off with one dancer trying to outdo the other with fancy footwork and a shake of the booty, all while keeping the upper torso steady.
Punta rock, the most popular music in Belize, was adapted from the traditional punta rhythm to electronic drum beats. Well-known punta rock artists include Pen Cayetano, Supa G, Aziatic, Titiman Flores and Mohobub.
